Mercy Corps: Conflict Prevention Report

Measuring the impact of the refugee crisis and presenting opportunities for peace.

Since 1979, Mercy Corps has been working to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression across the globe. The organization has been at the front lines of the largest refugee and forced migrant crisis the world has ever seen – 65 million people are currently uprooted from their homes, and the primary driver of displacement is violent conflict. In addition to implementing 95 conflict management programs in more than 30 countries, Mercy Corps wanted to raise awareness and support by publishing a report with evidence that conflict reduction is possible.

Inspiring funders through data visualizations.

Mercy Corps aimed to create a report that would visually transform complex data and inspire action. Rmrkbl designed the report and a series of infographics that presented the facts clearly and with impact. To rectify the issue of limited funding to peace building, Mercy Corps used the report to call on donors in international humanitarian aid to double their investments in conflict mitigation and peace-building programs.

The results.

Mercy Corps’ report, “An Ounce of Prevention: Why increasing investment in conflict prevention is worth more than a ‘pound of cure’ in addressing the displacement crisis,” demonstrated how investments in peace building can prevent conflict and mitigate violence. The print piece was presented at the UN Summit on Refugees and Migrants.
