Broadview Magazine
Strategic branding and editorial redesign for Canada’s voice of enlightened Christianity.
For nearly 200 years, the United Church Observer (now Broadview) has been publishing content for the United Church of Canada community. It recently decided to relaunch the magazine with a new name and mission to enhance its relevance among its dedicated national reader base.
Creative direction to achieve goals.
Broadview approached Rmrkbl to provide creative direction for its relaunch. This encompassed establishing a new brand vision through design and content reflective of the magazine’s broader audience. As a voice for enlightened Christianity and serving members of the United Church of Canada, its new mission and tagline is: “Spirituality, justice and ethical living.”
The results.
As the driver of Broadview’s creative direction, Rmrkbl designed a new brand identity and logo, clearly defined a cover strategy, and created covers that resonated deeply with readers. The journalistic excellence of Broadview’s stories is now better presented with feature story designs, thoughtful typographic treatments, and pointed photography and illustrations.

“Working with Carol Moskot is a dream come true. We started this relaunch project with a few basic details: a new name, a mission statement, a vague notion of the new magazine’s architecture, and a stack of other pubs we admired. Over the course of three months, Carol led us through a comprehensive process of turning our rudimentary ideas into stunning visuals that flow seamlessly from cover to cover.”
— Jocelyn Bell, Editor/Publisher, Broadview
Magazine covers were redesigned to resonate deeply with readers, getting to the heart of a subject with sophistication, intelligence, and inspired curiosity. The new magazine’s cover typography has its cut lines fully integrated into the cover image and is the driving voice of the concept.
“Through her expert design and her selection of fonts, colors, and artwork, Carol captured not only the essence of who we are but also what we aspired to become. The result is a magazine that exceeds our expectations, month after month. Our readers are equally thrilled.”
— Jocelyn Bell, Editor/Publisher, Broadview
